Aluminium windows for Beacon Hill and the Warren
On the big plots of Beacon Hill and Crowborough Warren, where post-war detached houses replaced many of the old villas, owners often want narrower frames and a dark colour that will not fade. Aluminium does both, and copes with the exposure on the top of the ridge.

Why aluminium suits the top of the town
The core of the Beacon Hill and Crowborough Warren estate had 22 houses in 1910 and 177 by 2008, still mostly detached. Most are post-war houses on subdivided villa plots, many with large picture windows that look across the Weald. Aluminium frames are stronger than uPVC, so the glass can be bigger and the frames slimmer, and a powder-coated finish does not chalk or fade under the sun and rain that hit the ridge.
The options
Slimline aluminium casement
£1,200 to £1,950
Priced as part of a set. As a single window on its own, £1,300 to £2,650.
Aluminium flush casement
£1,485 to £2,395
Sits level in the frame, the look of a timber casement without the painting.
Steel-look heritage aluminium
£2,060 to £3,650
Thin black frames with glazing bars, for 1930s houses and the few Arts and Crafts houses on the hill, where a black frame with bars suits the style. A 3-pane 1800 x 1200 mm window: £3,450 to £6,190.
Aluminium heritage sash
£2,710 to £4,305
A slim vertical slider for a Victorian villa where the owner wants sash looks and no painting.
Pines, sap and needles
Much of the Victorian conifer planting on Beacon Hill and the Warren is still in place. Needles block drainage slots and sap marks paint. A powder-coated aluminium frame wipes clean, which is a practical reason owners under the pines along Warren Road and Beacon Road choose it. Ask for drainage with covers that keep needles out.
