Front doors that stand up to Crowborough's weather
A front door on Crowborough's ridge takes rain blown sideways off the Weald. Composite and aluminium doors do not swell, warp or need painting, which is why they are the usual choice here, from the Forest estate to Beacon Hill.

Composite first
A composite door has a solid insulated core and a tough skin that holds its colour. At £2,200 to £4,020 it suits most Crowborough houses: a 1970s semi on the Forest estate, a 1950s Alderbrook house, or an Edwardian semi on Queen's Road, where a dark green or blue looks right with the red brick.
Aluminium for the bigger houses
An aluminium entrance door costs £3,590 to £7,240. It suits the larger detached houses on Beacon Hill and the Warren, where a wide door, a long pull handle and a side light are common. A side light costs £1,080 to £2,000 each.
Timber, honestly
A timber front door costs £2,950 to £5,910 and needs repainting every five to eight years, sooner on an exposed porch. For a listed cottage in one of the villages it may be the right door. For most houses in Crowborough, composite does the job for less and needs nothing but a wipe.
Security and thresholds
Every door is fitted with a multi-point lock. Ask for a low threshold if anyone in the house uses a stick or a wheelchair; the bungalows at Poundfield and off Eridge Road are where this request comes up most.
