Canted bay windows for Crowborough's Edwardian semis
The three-sided canted bay is the signature of the Edwardian semis on Whitehill Road and Queen's Road and the late Victorian villas on Crowborough Hill. It is the most expensive single window on most of these houses, and the one where the survey matters most.

Where the bays are
Crowborough's bays cluster where building happened between 1875 and 1914: the Edwardian semis on Whitehill Road and Queen's Road, the semi-detached villas at Farningham Road and Rosehill Gardens on Crowborough Hill, and the semis on Huntington Road and South Street. Post-war houses on the Blackness estate and at Poundfield sometimes have a shallow box bay too.

A three-unit uPVC flush canted bay of about 2000 x 1400 mm costs £3,380 to £5,430. It keeps the proportions of an Edwardian bay and is the usual choice on Whitehill Road.
A slimline aluminium canted bay costs £4,540 to £7,735. The thinner mullions let in more light, which some owners on the north-facing side of a street value, and the colour lasts on an exposed front.
What the survey looks for
On many Edwardian bays the small roof above rests partly on the old window frames. Take them out without support and the bay roof moves. The survey checks this, and if the bay needs a new post or a steel, that is priced separately after the visit. The same visit looks at the sill and at the brickwork below the bay.
